Kelly-Creswell Company has been producing paint and bead guns for almost 70 years.  Through the years, the guns have changed considerably because of the changes in paint.  It used to be that the only type of paint available was solvent based paint.  With the introduction and subsequent popularity of latex or water-based paint, Kelly-Creswell was a pioneer with new technology to efficiently apply latex based paint.  The first innovation that Kelly-Creswell introduced was the "non-bleeder" retrofit of our existing KC-593 paint guns. 

A "bleeder" type paint gun has atomizing air pouring out of the gun at all times, even when no paint is coming out of the gun.  This set-up is fine with solvent based paint because the small amount of paint that is dried by the continuous air flow of atomizing is readily cleaned by the new paint coming out of the gun.  In other words, the dried paint is re absorbed into the stream of new paint thereby cleaning the tip every time a new line is applied. 

Conversely, when latex based paint dries, it changes form forever and cannot be re absorbed into the stream of new paint.  If you use a "bleeder" gun with latex paint, the paint that dries in the tip will continue to build up until it causes problems with the quality of the line.  The only way to combat this if you are using a "bleeder" gun is to take off the tips and scrape it out.  This causes delays in production. 

To combat this problem, Kelly-Creswell introduced the "non bleeder" paint gun.  In this arrangement, the KC-593 gun only allows atomizing air to escape to the tips if the paint flow is activated.  This greatly diminishes the paint build up at the tip.  The "non bleeder" gun is available in two configurations:  The "non bleeder" and the "non bleeder flush."  The "non bleeder" configuration stops the atomizing air but it does not make accommodations for flushing the tip of the gun from the cleaner tank.  The "non bleeder flush" configuration stops the atomizing air while allowing the flush system to easily clean the tip.   

Kelly-Creswell Company manufactures three gun set ups for each paint gun that it produces. (Except for Nautilus Truck Guns)  Each set up still uses the same gun body casting.  Any gun can be easily changed from one type to the other by adding or subtracting components.  However, this also tends to cause confusion when talking to customers about specific machines and components.  To that end, please see below for tips on identifying paint guns. 

The easiest way to determine which gun you have on your machine is to count the number of fluid, atomizing air, cleaner, and control connections that the gun has.  Each gun model is listed below with a corresponding link to a drawing of the gun.  Beside each gun listed is a listing of the gun connections.
